Drum Kits For Kids

If your child wants a drum kit, it can become a little confusing as to which one you should get, due to the numerous type of drum kits for kids that can be purchased.

Traditionally kids drum kits viewed to be a toy. This sort of drum would be a single component which could be placed on the floor or worn around the neck with a strap. Suffice to say, learning to play drums on a toy like this would be futile. Typically, drums like these may have looked colourful and fun, but were soon discarded by most kids.

Today it is a very different picture. A child’s drum kit is no longer regarded as being some sort of toy. A kids drum set is an ideal starter drum kit which will help a child to learn to become a proper drummer if he or she wishes to do so.

Some of the top drum makers have produced smaller versions of their professional drum sets. Their drum kits for kids are produced with the same care and quality that you would find on any large drum kit.

Any child will be able to reach a good level of drumming if they practice consistently on a drum set for kids. While a full sized set of drums can cost many hundreds of dollars, or even a few thousand dollars, a child’s drum set can be bought from $100.00 upwards. You can actually buy a decent drum kit for kids for just a couple of hundred dollars.

There are two positive factors for buying a small drum set for your child. The first factor is that you do not have to shell our a lot of cash for the purchase. Secondly you will get some idea as to how dedicated your child is to learning to play a percussion instrument. How often do kids beg and plead for something, only to discard it after a month or two?. This can be pretty irritating for a parent, especially if they have spent a lot of money.

A drum kit for kids will enable you to find out how serious your child really is about learning how to play long term, without costing you an arm or a leg.

Drum sticks and cymbals are normally part of the kit, but a drum can come with 3 or 5 drums along with other accessories. Obviously a five piece drum will have more going for it.

You need to take into consideration the age of your son or daughter before you buy a drum set. We all know how quickly children grow. Buying the perfectly sized drum kit for your child is often a mistake made by many parents.. It is better to buy a drum kit that is slightly bigger, as your child can grow into it, and you will not have something that is no longer workable.

On the whole it is boys that drums are usually bought for. The trend for girls playing the drums has risen rapidly over the last few years. Many drum companies are now designing drums specifically for girls. You can now get a girls drum set which is pink in colour, but is a true percussion instrument to learn on.

Apart from the low cost of purchase, you will be providing your child with an opportunity to show an interest in music and develop their skills by getting them a drum set from the various ranges of drum kits for kids.

I Want a Drum Set

I want a drum set” seems a simple enough statement, but there are more complications to buying a drum set than most people may think.

You may know what to look for if you are already a useful drummer. However if you are just starting out, picking a set of drums can be a little more daunting, this is why looking at some Drum Set Reviews can be helpful.

Picking a drum kit that is too costly for a new drummers capabilities is not a good idea. If you have money to burn, you can ignore this advice, but here are two reasons as to why you shouldn’t.

The first is that at this point in time you may really want to get good at playing the drums, but you won’t know if you are going to feel the same way 6 or 12 months down the road. You will have a hard time getting back the money you might have spent on your drums.

The other factor is that you will only become a good drum player through constant practice. Practicing on a less costly set of drums will give you the same result. So it would be wise to choose a mid range set of drum which will not break the bank.

The reason that you should avoid buying a cheap drum set, is that often these kinds of models don’t allow you to add features to them, and it will mean you having to go out and buy another set when you need something better. On a lot of mid range drum kits you can add extras, and upgrade to a higher quality of individualdrums and cymbals. This allows you to keep improving the set that you already have, as you become a better drum player.

I Want a Drum Set - Electronic or Acoustic?

Another factor to think about is whether you want to buy an electronic drum kit, or buy an acoustic drum kit.

Most people who get intersted in learning to play drums, usually do so because there is something animalistic and primative about banging a drum, and usually go for an acoustic model.

The next thing to look at would be where would be the best place to buy a drum kit. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to retailers that sell drum kits. You can also look in your local ads for a good used model. You’d just have to check that everything was in working order.

If you want a drum set, you should be in better position now to be able to go out and buy a drum set which is going to suit you.
